MARE project meeting and workshop on the enterprise-academy connection on marine coastal and delta sustainability

The "Marine Coastal and Delta Sustainability for South East Asia (MARE)" project sets goals to implemented with the aim to enhance management performance and ensure socio-ecological system sustainability of coastal, delta & marine, socio-ecological systems in Malaysia, Viet Nam and adjacent waters through training at university, college and post-graduate level. MARE is in framework of the Erasmus+ program funded by the European Union (EU) with the participation of 13-member institutions, including Vietnam Maritime University.

MARE creates opportunities for member schools to access the system of equipment for online classrooms and conferences, with the aim to cooperate and implement pilot E-learning courses, creates and updates courses based on the knowledge and skills shared in the program and also organize international seminars and summer courses for students, researchers and lecturers. Moreover, this also presents an opportunity for Vietnam Maritime University to build a network of connections with prestigious domestic and foreign partners regarding academic and scientific research activities.

From 15th to 17th February, 2023, Vietnam Maritime University is honoured to hold the MARE project meeting and Workshop on the enterprise-academy connection on marine coastal and delta sustainability.

Welcoming the delegation of MARE members, on behalf of Vietnam Maritime University, there are Assoc.Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc - Vice President, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Van - Head of International Relations Department, Dr. Tran The Nam - Head of Research and Development Department and representatives of the Faculty of Hydraulic Engineering, the Institute of Environmental Engineering representing Vietnam Maritime University had a meeting and worked with representatives of MARE Member Universities/Institutes. The parties discussed training capacity, facilities system, online training experience, since then opening up more educational cooperation opportunities in the future between Vietnam Maritime University and MARE Member Universities/Institutes.

The workshop was attended by 13 famous domestic and international universities/institutes and a number of businesses in the maritime field. Representatives of the universities/institutes had regular meetings to continue to discuss and complete the implementation of online courses on sustainable development to optimize the use of devices provided by the MARE program and to access modern educational methods. The workshop session on 16th February 2023 had 09 research projects presenting experiences as well as practical implementation of solutions for sustainable environment development and business connection, in which the Vietnam Maritime University contributed one by Dr. Tran Duc Phu on “Promotion for University-Enterprises connection: Case study of  VMU”.

Representative of participating enterprises, Mr. Joris Van Tienen, Director of Damen Song Cam Shipyard emphasized the importance of maritime institutions in providing high-quality human resources and hoped for a brighter future of sustainable development.

After the workshop, the representatives of Vietnam Maritime University and MARE members visited some typical facilities of the University: simulator training room, training ship VMU VIET- HAN, etc, as well as visiting Deep C Industrial Zone and Lach Huyen Port of Hai Phong City, thereby, the domestic and foreign representatives will have an overall and comprehensive view of maritime activities as well as sustainable development marine environment of Viet Nam.

MARE meetings and workshop have contributed to further tightening the relationship among members of the MARE program and strengthening cooperation with enterprises. As a leading educating and training institution in the maritime field and an official member of MARE, Vietnam Maritime University would like to raise awareness and fosters the quality of teaching and researching on marine & coastal management and sustainable development, which have a great contribution to the implementation of strategic goals by 2030 - The Vietnam Maritime University will become one of the top centers for training highly qualified human resources, scientific researching and technical transfer of the Asia-Pacific region.
