In the morning of September 21st 2014, all the lecturers and students at VMU formally celebrated the new academic school year opening ceremony 2014 – 2015 with the attendances of Mr. Bui Van Cuong- alternate member of the Party CC and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Central Business Bloc, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Transport Nguyen Van Cong, Hai Phong People’s Council Vice Chairman Nguyen Dinh Bich, Mr. Nguyen Van Ngang- Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and representatives from many enterprises.
In the speech to start the new school year, Ass. Prof, Dr. Luong Cong Nho- Party Committee Secretary, President of VMU summarized the work of the last school year. In the last academic year 2013-2014, all of teachers and students have been tirelessly striving to reach goals in all the fields of teaching, learning, scientific research, international cooperation, building infrastructure, improving the lives of teachers and personnel to contribute to the development of the country, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Education and Training and Haiphong city. After finishing the last year, teams and individuals were rewarded as follows:
- 21 teams titled "Excellent Labor Collective";
- 94 teams titled " Advanced Labor Collective";
- 175 individuals awarded the title of "Grassroots-level Emulation Fighter ";
- 783 individuals awarded the title of "Labor Advanced ";
- 200 students titled "Outstanding student".
Achievements in the last year are in the following:
- Trained 3,045 undergraduates and engineers; 147 Masters; 334 senior officers; 136 junior officers; and 4,860 trainees in maritime operation;
- Opened 04 undergraduate majors
Currently, the university is implementing 64 educating and training programs, including: 8 majors at doctorate, 11 majors at master, 33 majors at undergraduate, 8 majors at college and 12 majors at vocational level. The entire training programs has be revised and built towards effectiveness, practice, modernization and advance.
At the present, Vietnam Maritime University has 25,959 students, 982 managing staff and teachers, including 27 Professors, 91 PhD & DSc, 494 MSc and hundreds of captains, first classed chief engineers and many maritime officers and seafarers at the international level.
In accordance with many important projects of the Ministry of Transport, VMU designed and got approval from the Ministry of Transport about the strategic developing plan to 2020, the vision to 2030. In addition, VMU will be implementing more reformations about all the aspects in order to make the VMU become one of the high quality training center of Transport section in the South of Vietnam as well as in the Asian region.
Giving the speech at the school year opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Transport Nguyen Van Cong and Nguyen Dinh Bich- City People’s Council Vice Chairman highly appriciated the strong development of VMU and its valuable contributions in providing high quality manforce to the Transport section and the whole nation. He also gave some directions to VMU in this new school year about such as: perfecting training programs. Improving the qualifications of teaching and managing staff, promoting the brand of VMU.
