The international workshop “Enhancing competence of Japan-Mekong Regional Logistics Training Center in Viet Nam – stage 2” hosted by VIMARU.

From February 5 to 6, Vietnam Maritime University hosted the international workshop “Enhancing competence of Japan-Mekong Regional Logistics Training Center in Viet Nam – stage 2” which was chaired by Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Xuan Duong – President.

Attending the international workshop were Mr. Le Tuan Anh – Director General of International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Transport of Vietnam; Mr. Tomoyuki Fukuhara – Representative of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT); the experts, the lectures, the participants from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

At the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Xuan Duong – President of VMU  affirmed that Vietnam Maritime University is currently the largest training institution, capable of training international qualified logistics human resource in the north region of Vietnam where has played a critical role in the advancement of the country and has been recognized as the place with the most significant geo-politics and also the center of economics, culture and science and technology development of Vietnam.

Mr. Tomoyuki Fukuhara – Representative of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT) said: “Mekong region is experiencing continuous growth in the recent years depending on the development of the manufacturing and agriculture sectors. Service sector has also quickly grown in accordance with urbanization and growth of income level in urban area.”

In the process of social development, logistics plays vital role to support manufactures activities and activate the logistics service providers. And to provide logistics of high quality, securing competent workers are essential. In this context, it is important matter to educate them effectively and intensively.

The objective of the workshop is the exchange of views, shedding light on institutional enhancements and human resource developments in CLMV countries. This workshop is designed to provide with a broader scope of knowledge on the current situation of logistics from CLMV countries.

The Japan Mekong Regional Logistics Center was established by Japan ASEAN Integration Fund in 2014. This center is the most suitable logistics training center for Mekong Region. To enhance the utilization of the center and accommodate the demand on training for workers of CLMV countries, the project of Enhancing Competence of this center was endorsed to use JAIF again. 

According to Mr. Le Tuan Anh - Director General of International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Transport of Vietnam, the 2nd international workshops under the project on Enhancing competence of Japan – Mekong Regional Logistics Training Center in Vietnam (JMLTC) – stage 2 with the theme “Situation and solutions to develop the logistics connection network and multimodal transport in CLMV and the ASEAN region” is an important event under the ASEAN – Japan Transport Partnership, which provide a valuable opportunity for industry experts, decision-makers, leaders and directors from authorities, institutions, associations and enterprises in logistics industry of the region to share their valuable knowledge and experiences in this subject.

The workshop was a great success, leaving a good impression for the participants.
